Meet Your Guide

David Mejicanos.

Based in San Salvador, David has spent the last few years taking travelers off the highway and into the El Salvador most tourists never see. He grew up here. He speaks fluent English. He knows which coffee farm has the best Pacamara that season, which trail opens after the rains, and which back-road pupusería is worth the detour.

Every tour is private and built around your group — no rushed buses, no script. Just one experienced local, an air-conditioned 7-seater, and a country that keeps surprising even him.

Pacamara Coffee Trail

Wind up into the cloud forest of Concepción de Ataco. Tour Café Ataco and Entre Nubes, watch the harvest, and cup the legendary Pacamara — a varietal so rare it's grown almost nowhere else on earth. Lunch among the murals of the Ruta de las Flores.

Santa Ana Volcano + Coatepeque Lake

The classic. Hike the active Ilamatepec crater for a sulphur-blue caldera lake the colour of toothpaste, then descend to Coatepeque for a fresh fish lunch on the water. The view from the summit is the one El Salvador is famous for.

The 7 Waterfalls of Juayúa

A guided trek through coffee country to a chain of seven cascades — climb, swim and cliff-jump where you want to. We time it to catch the famous Juayúa food fair on the way back. Bring shoes that can get wet.

Tamanique Falls + El Tunco Beach

A short downhill hike to three jungle cascades you can swim under, then west to El Tunco for surf-watching, fish tacos, and one of the best Pacific sunsets you'll see anywhere. Surf board rental on request.

Copán Mayan Ruins

Cross into Honduras to walk among the most artistic city of the Maya world. Stelae, the Hieroglyphic Stairway, ball court — David handles all border paperwork and the route timing. Add a night in the colonial town of Copán Ruinas.

Monkey Sanctuary Visit

A working rescue and rehabilitation centre for spider monkeys confiscated from the illegal pet trade. Meet the keepers, hear the stories, support the work. Easy and family-friendly — kids love this one.

San Salvador City Tour

The historic centre, the Metropolitan Cathedral with Romero's tomb, the National Palace, the Iglesia El Rosario's stained-glass cathedral, and the bustling markets. David's commentary makes the recent history land — not from a guidebook, from someone who lived it.

El Boquerón Volcano Crater

A short, scenic walk into the rim of San Salvador's dormant volcano — coffee plantations, cool mountain air, and a panoramic view down into a 500m-deep crater that holds a smaller volcano inside it. Perfect afternoon add-on to the city tour.

Traveler Reviews

Hundreds of trips. One name they keep repeating.

★★★★★

David made our coffee tour to Ataco the highlight of our two weeks in Central America. We cupped Pacamara at Entre Nubes and learned more about specialty coffee in one afternoon than we had in years of drinking it back home. He knows every farmer by name.

Hiking Santa Ana with David was unreal. He paced it perfectly for our group and had us at the crater rim with the lake glowing below us before the clouds rolled in. Lunch on Coatepeque after was the best fish I've had all year.

We hired David for a four-day charter — Copán, the waterfalls, then El Tunco. The 7-seater was spotless, he handled all the border paperwork at Honduras, and his English is excellent. Cannot recommend strongly enough.

Six of us, three generations, ranging from my 9-year-old to my 72-year-old mom. David built us a custom week that worked for everyone. The monkey sanctuary made my daughter's year. Already planning to come back.

I went solo and felt completely safe with David the whole time. The Juayúa waterfalls were breathtaking and he knew exactly which trails to take to avoid the weekend crowds. We stopped at the food fair on the way back — pupusas I still dream about.

Honestly the best tour guide we've ever had, anywhere. David picked us up from the airport, took us to Tamanique waterfalls the next day (incredible), and we ended at El Tunco for sunset. Felt like traveling with a friend who happened to know everything.
